“Blood, Race & Tears – A Quadraphonic Conversion Therapy”, a sound installation created especially for the Tea House Gallery in collaboration with the Israel Festival, by multidisciplinary artist Maya Dunietz.
As part of the event Dorbanot, marking 25 years of the Sapir Prize for Literature by Mifal HaPais, Dunietz incorporates recordings of Sapir Prize-winning authors reading selected passages from their works—moments of change, transformation, and inner movement.
The Tea House becomes a kind of “conversion machine,” inviting visitors to undergo a personal shift through waves of sound in an immersive environment that blurs the boundaries between literature, music, and the psycho-emotional. The installation reboots what Dunietz refers to as “the story we tell ourselves.”
In conjunction with the Israel Festival events at Hansen House, a double launch of the work will take place with a public audiovisual performance, created in collaboration with lighting designer Yan Boltov. The event will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, July 30–31, 2025, starting at 20:00, with free entrance through the western gates of Hansen House (near the Cafe).
Maya Dunietz is a composer, pianist, sound artist, and performer—one of the most prominent figures in the Israeli and international avant-garde scene. Her work is regularly featured in festivals, museums, and concert halls around the world, known for its intellectual rigor and deeply emotional, sensory impact.
Double Opening: Wednesday & Thursday, July 30–31, 2025, from 20:00
Tea House Sound Gallery – Hansen House Courtyard, Jerusalem
Admission is free
The installation will be open to the public at the Tea House Gallery from August 1 to October 1, 2025, daily from 17:00 to 23:00.
