The Historical Exhibition
Manofim Festival for Contemporary Art returns to Hansen House on Thursday, October 26th. Together we have devised a day filled with activities and content: The Jerusalem Art Conference together with “Erev Rav” and “Harama” journals, the opening of Daniel Kiczales exhibition, more exhibitions, tours and a one-time performance by Naarot Reines hosting Hila Ruach.
11:00-19:00- Hansen House rooftop
The 8th Jerusalem Art Conference with several international guests
The 8th Jerusalem Art Conference is dedicated to the role of art in political, climate and technological debates, both internationally and locally. The presentations will engage with the artistic use of mapping and simulation technologies, with the proliferation of international academic programs combining artistic practice with research, issues concerning the world of curation today, and the changes to which the art scenes are subjected to in countries undergoing anti-democratic processes.
19:00 – The Tea House Sound Gallery
Opening of Daniel Kiczales exhibition – “Spirits”
The morning after Rabin’s murder, Daniel Kiczales was late for school. The language teacher stood by the blackboard with tears in her eyes. For a change, she allowed him in.
Almost 30 years later, Kiczales returns to Rabin’s figure to enter another space. A space in which a vocal ceremony for a male choir takes place, combining episodes from the country’s history, words of rebuke, and moments of prophecy.
The Tea House is a sound gallery enabled by the collaboration between Hansen House and The Mamuta Center.
19:30 – Mamuta Art and Research Center
Tour with Hadasa Goldwicht and Ada Vardi
Hadas Goldwicht will lead a special tour of Ariel Vardi’s exhibition, speaking to Ada Vardi on Ariel Vardi’s print works. For over 30 years Vardi printed hundreds of books and prints using a special technique he developed. Among his methods, he carved his own woodcut letters and bound some of his books using sand and earth. Goldwicht will discuss her video and sound work, shown in the subterranean spaces of the Mamuta building, where Vardi – a radio operator for the ‘Mossad Lealiyah Bet’ – is documented transmitting his books through Morse code, as a way of deconstructing letters and playing with them, giving them shape through lines and dots.
21:00 Musical performance – ‘Mixer’
Naarot Reines hosting Hila Ruach!
